Welcome to “Six Sentence Sunday”. Thank you for visiting and especially for any comments.
This will be the second six from my love story about a siren named Circe who’s down to her last chance to shipwreck a halibut fishing vessel in the frigid waters near Homer, Alaska. Think Deadliest Catch meets The Odyssey.
The story is told from the alternating points of view of Circe and Otis, the wily captain of the Calypso.
As a lead in, Circe has decided to stalk Captain Otis to figure out why he’s been able to withstand her siren’s song. When they meet, not only does he not recognize Circe, but he flirts with her and asks her out for coffee at the Lotus Eater’s Cafe. Unable to speak for fear of betraying her otherworldly voice, Circe uses sign language. When Otis is able to understand and sign back, she discovers the root of her problem—her handsome nemesis is deaf.
In this six, the pair enjoy their coffees and a couple of treats from the bakery. Circe is not used to human food or drinks and has already put on quite a show savoring the sweets.
[Circe] took a giant swallow of her coffee, and almost immediately began coughing and waving a hand in front of her mouth.
“Are you okay?” [Otis] pinched off a corner of his pumpkin bread and handed it to her.
“Hot!” One hand resumed fanning her open mouth, her tongue thrust out and over her lower lip.
He couldn’t help but smile at her child-like candor, his laughter barely suppressed.

Beautiful fun six.
I really want to read this in its entirety. I love the concept, the deaf captain and the siren trying to defeat him. Your six sentences here paint a great picture and definitely leave me wondering “what happens next?” 😀
Really fun first date! I like that it all starts out so normal like. Great six Claire!
What an interesting story concept! Love it.
So even Siren’s drink from their coffee when too hot, too? 😉
A siren vs a deaf guy! It’s awesome.
Intriguing six! I love mythology-based stories and the characterizations are interesting!
Claire, this is lovely! A very interesting premise–Deadliest Catch and The Odyssey. Odyssey’s my favorite classic, but I’ve only watched snippets (at best) from Catch. Still, I think this marriage’s a winner 🙂 I like your voice, too. Circe’s moment of childlike discovery makes her come across as vulnerable, and Otis’s goodnatured laugh makes him charming in the most realistic way. Great job!
I love this concept! I’d really like to know how you wrote Otis. Can’t wait to read the whole thing!
Great six ~ on my tbr list:-)
Love their interaction!
Do I detect that he’s become somewhat more than prey?
What a unique idea. Very interesting six 🙂
Loved it! I’m intrigued. I wonder what she’ll end up doing. If he can’t become victim of her siren song, she can make him a victim of her love. (Yes, I did just say the cheesiest thing ever :p)
Me. Want. Read.
Fun six. Love the title, too.
I love the concept of the deaf man and a siren . What an inventive couple
