Starting November 1, 2009, I’ll begin my quest to write a 50k+ novel by November 30. But what shall I write about?
I’ve been experimenting with different genres in my flash fictions but I know some are sustainable for 50k and some aren’t for me anyway. I’d love to produce something my 11 and 13 year old sons would enjoy but I’ve not read any of their stuff lately so might not be for me.
I may try my hand at a Harlequin type category romance. But it WON’T be about an alpha male and his submissive and pregnant love interest. I don’t think I’m capable of writing a female character that contemptible (to me anyway, no offense to those who enjoy those types of heroines). Still there’s something fun about a hyper alpha male who gets bested by a strong female and I could easily see myself writing that. My past two males have been more beta’s though my last one was more of an alpha in beta’s clothing.
Paranormal? Eh, I don’t know. I wrote a short about an angel seeking to become human by finding love with a human before his time was up. That was kind of sweet but I have some fundamental issues with supernatural beings, especially ones created by God for the good of mankind wishing to renounce that for mortality. It defies my logical brain. Ditto with a demon seeking love. That’s an oxymoron for me. I don’t see any good in demons nor any hope for redemption. Perhaps I’m stuck in my own paradigm but I write for fun so suspending my beliefs for fun probably isn’t going to happen.
Science fiction? I started a pretty interesting short story about what happens when post apocalyptic mankind seeks to leave his subterranean home after almost two millenia. It might be nice but I’m kind of lazy and wouldn’t want to be done in by the research.
Decisions, decisions. I’ve got a little over a month to figure it out and I will.
