Special Halloween Mid-Week Tease — PURE CHANCE sneak peek #ThePURE

MidWeekTeaseHalloweenThis week’s Mid-Week tease, hosted by the inimitable Sandra Bunino, is a special Halloween treat. Since I don’t write that much paranormal under this pen name, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into the start of The P.U.R.E. #2, working titled Pure Chance. I was planning on working on this for NaNo, if I do it this year, which starts this Saturday, November 1.

In this opening scene, Gayle and Jon are back and are jetting to Las Vegas (unedited):

***

Las Vegas looked like a very hot desert and an inhospitable place to crash land. The thermals were brutal, tossing our little plane ruthlessly. Jon would have to pry my fingers off the armrest when we landed, assuming we survived.

I glanced his way. He turned and caught my eye, leaned over and kissed me on the nose.  “Almost on the ground.”

“Hopefully still able to walk erect and not incinerated beyond recognition.”

Jon peeled my fingers off the armrest and held my hand in his. “I got you, ” he murmured.

“Who’s got you?”

He glanced past me toward the window I sat next to. “We’re looking good. Don’t worry.”

Eyes squeezed shut, I chanted to myself, “Safe, safe, safe.”

A thermal tipped our wings to the side. I clutched Jon’s hand more tightly.handsome man and lovely woman

Safe, safe, safe.

The wings leveled off, and then we fell.

A few gasps blended with my own.

“Whoa! What a rush!” Jon exclaimed.

Again the wings wobbled as the hand of an invisible gremlin, as malevolent as it was mischievous played with us.

Safe, safe, safe.

My blood rushed to my toes, eager little piggies for terra firma, only it threatened to take the contents of my lunch with me. As the blood abandoned ship, malaise crept into the void. Someone shoved cotton in my ears and then spun me around and around. A cold sweat popped out over my skin. I briefly pondered if crashing might be the lesser evil.

Sick, sick, sick.

With my free hand I fumbled in the seat pocket in front of me. Jon let go of my other hand when I tugged it away to aid in my frantic search.

“Gayle? Are you okay?”

Sick, sick, sick.

My fingers found the white paper bag. I opened it, bent my head over and hurled.

What a great way to start …

What’s it about?

An all expenses paid, trans-Atlantic cruise has romance written all over it…unless you’re the poor sap who has to inspect the toilets and time the cafeteria lines. As if secret-shopping her company’s failing cruise ship isn’t bad enough, Lydia Johnson is forced to bring along a “top talent” new hire as her assistant. With a heart barely healed from her ex-fiancé’s deceit, she’s in no mood to train a man who might cheat her out of an overdue promotion.

Paul Thomas may be new to J.P. Theriot Enterprises, but he certainly knows his way around cruise ships. The Cajun charmer also isn’t shy about pursuing his desires, including his wary, but oh-so-sexy-when-she lets-her-hair-down manager. He’s shared more about himself with Lydia than any other woman…except who he really is–J.P. Theriot.

Join me on a 16 day tour, the same duration as the cruise in the novel, as I visit a few very supportive fellow authors.
